Build It Your Way.

The Design Your Own FPV Drone option is for pilots who want something more specific than one of our standard Hummingbird, Hummingbird Pro, or Falcon configurations.

Maybe you already know exactly which frame, motors, video system, receiver, and electronics you want.

Maybe you only know that you want something lightweight, fast, cinematic, durable, long-range, or completely ridiculous.

Either way, we’ll help turn your idea into a compatible, professionally built FPV aircraft.

You choose the priorities.

We help engineer the system around them.

Every custom WingSmith build is professionally designed, assembled, configured, tuned, inspected, and tested by WingSmith Drones in Saskatchewan before shipment.

Custom Design & Build Fee: $75

Every Design Your Own build includes a $75 Custom Design & Build Fee in addition to the components and equipment selected for your build.

This fee covers the additional one-off work involved in creating a custom WingSmith configuration, including:

  • Component compatibility review
  • Custom build planning
  • Component selection assistance
  • Aircraft configuration design
  • Professional assembly
  • Soldering and wiring
  • Firmware configuration
  • Receiver and control setup
  • Flight-mode configuration
  • Tuning
  • QA/QC inspection
  • Functional testing
  • Build documentation
  • Technical support
  • Lifetime eligibility for WingSmith repair support

Your final price is the $75 Custom Design & Build Fee plus the components and equipment selected for your configuration.

You’ll know exactly what is going into your build — and what it costs — before assembly begins.

Why Is There a Separate Fee?

Our Hummingbird, Hummingbird Pro, and Falcon configurations have already been designed, tested, and standardized, so their design and build costs are incorporated into their listed prices.

A custom aircraft requires additional one-off design, compatibility, configuration, and planning work.

The $75 Custom Design & Build Fee allows us to provide that additional service without making a custom build less expensive than one of our established WingSmith configurations simply because the components are being selected individually.

For unusually complex builds or configurations requiring extensive additional design work, any additional labour cost will be discussed and approved before work begins.

How It Works

1. Tell Us What You Want to Do

Start by telling us what you want your aircraft to accomplish.

That might include:

  • Lightweight / sub-250g flying
  • Compact freestyle
  • High-performance freestyle
  • Fast cruising
  • Cinematic flight
  • Racing
  • Longer-duration cruising
  • Action-camera carrying
  • A specific control or video ecosystem
  • A particular frame or component
  • A completely custom application

You do not need to know every component you want before getting started.

If you already know exactly what you want, great.

If your starting point is simply:

“I want something small, fast, and hard to break.”

That works too.

2. Build Your Configuration

We’ll help you select compatible components based on your goals, budget, and existing equipment.

Your build may include selections for:

  • Frame
  • Propeller size
  • Motors
  • Flight controller
  • ESC
  • Video system
  • Receiver
  • Controller
  • FPV goggles
  • Batteries
  • Charger
  • GPS
  • Buzzers
  • Antennas
  • Action-camera mounts
  • TPU / 3D-printed parts
  • Spare parts
  • Maintenance equipment

Already own goggles, a controller, batteries, or charging equipment?

We can build around the equipment you already have rather than making you buy it again.

3. Review Your Build

Before assembly begins, we’ll confirm the proposed configuration with you.

You’ll know:

  • Which frame is being used
  • Which motors are being installed
  • Which flight electronics are included
  • Which video system is installed
  • Which receiver/control system is being used
  • Battery requirements
  • Relevant compatibility details
  • Selected upgrades and accessories
  • Final component pricing
  • Custom Design & Build Fee
  • Expected final build price

No mystery components. No surprise substitutions. No hidden build specification.

4. We Build It

Once the configuration is approved, WingSmith will:

  • Professionally assemble the aircraft
  • Solder and wire the electronics
  • Install selected components
  • Configure firmware
  • Configure the receiver and control link
  • Set up flight modes and functions
  • Tune the aircraft
  • Perform QA/QC inspection
  • Functionally test the completed build
  • Prepare supporting build documentation

You get the benefits of a custom FPV aircraft without having to figure out every compatibility problem, solder joint, firmware setting, and configuration step yourself.

  • Upgrade support
  • WingSmith repair support throughout the life of the aircraft

What Can You Customize?

Aircraft Size & Frame

Choose the platform that best suits your intended use.

Possible configurations may include:

  • 2.5”
  • 3”
  • 3.5”
  • 5”
  • Other compatible FPV platforms

Frame selection can be based around priorities such as:

  • Weight
  • Durability
  • Freestyle performance
  • Portability
  • Racing
  • Cinematic use
  • Ease of repair
  • Component compatibility

Motors & Propulsion

Motor selection can dramatically change how an aircraft feels.

We can help select motors based on priorities such as:

  • Efficiency
  • Lightweight performance
  • Thrust
  • Freestyle
  • Racing
  • Smooth cruising
  • Payload capability

Motor KV, propeller size, battery voltage, ESC capability, and aircraft weight all need to work together.

That’s part of what the custom design process is for.

Flight Electronics

Your flight controller and ESC can be selected to suit:

  • Aircraft size
  • Motor requirements
  • Battery voltage
  • Current demand
  • Available space
  • GPS or accessory requirements
  • Intended flying style

We’ll help make sure your electronics are appropriate for the rest of the system rather than simply choosing parts individually.

Video System

Choose a compatible FPV video platform based on the equipment you already own or the performance you want.

Options may include systems such as:

  • DJI O4 Lite Pro
  • DJI O4 Pro
  • Other compatible digital or FPV video systems

Already own goggles?

Tell us what you use and we can help configure the aircraft around them where possible.

Receiver & Control Link

Your receiver must be compatible with the radio system you intend to use.

Our standard builds commonly use ELRS, but custom receiver configurations may be available depending on your equipment and requirements.

Already have a controller you love?

We’ll help build around it.

Batteries

Battery selection affects:

  • Aircraft weight
  • Flight duration
  • Power delivery
  • Handling
  • Motor performance
  • Payload capability

We can help select an appropriate battery size and connector based on the aircraft configuration.

If remaining below a particular regulatory weight threshold is important, we can also build with finished aircraft weight in mind.

GPS & Additional Electronics

Compatible builds may include:

  • GPS
  • Buzzers
  • Additional antennas
  • Telemetry hardware
  • Other compatible accessories

Additional hardware can affect weight, power requirements, and available mounting space, so these components are considered as part of the overall aircraft design.

TPU & 3D-Printed Components

Customize your build with compatible 3D-printed components such as:

  • Antenna mounts
  • Camera protection
  • Action-camera mounts
  • Motor protection
  • Landing protection
  • GPS mounts
  • Custom colour combinations

Available options depend on the selected frame and aircraft configuration.

Complete Kit or Drone Only

Your custom build doesn’t have to include equipment you already own.

Choose:

Drone Only

Ideal if you already own compatible:

  • Goggles
  • Controller
  • Batteries
  • Charger
  • Tools

Complete Kit

Build an entire FPV setup around your custom aircraft.

A complete kit can include:

  • FPV goggles
  • Radio controller
  • Flight batteries
  • Smart battery charger
  • Spare propellers
  • Maintenance tools
  • Liftoff FPV Simulator access
  • WingSmith Academy training resources

Start With the Way You Want to Fly

Lightweight / Sub-250g

Prioritize:

  • Low aircraft weight
  • Portability
  • Efficiency
  • Responsive handling

Where possible, we can select components with a sub-250g ready-to-fly target in mind.

Final regulatory weight depends on the completed aircraft as flown, including the battery, GPS, camera, accessories, and any other installed equipment.

Freestyle

Built around:

  • Durability
  • Thrust
  • Control authority
  • Repairability
  • Responsive handling

Ideal for pilots interested in:

  • Flips
  • Rolls
  • Power loops
  • Dives
  • Punch-outs
  • High-energy flying

Cruising / Cinematic

Prioritize:

  • Smooth flight characteristics
  • Efficiency
  • Usable flight duration
  • Stable power delivery
  • Camera compatibility

We can help balance battery size, motor selection, propeller choice, and payload based on how you intend to fly.

High Performance

For pilots who care more about power than minimum aircraft weight.

Higher-output motors, electronics, batteries, and propeller configurations can create a much more aggressive aircraft.

That additional performance may come with trade-offs in:

  • Flight duration
  • Battery demand
  • Weight
  • Heat
  • Component wear

We’ll help explain those trade-offs before the build is finalized.

Something Weird?

Have a frame you love?

A component combination you haven’t seen offered anywhere?

A very specific application?

A build idea that starts with:

“Okay, hear me out…”

Perfect.

Tell us what you’re trying to accomplish.

If we can build it safely, compatibly, and responsibly, we’ll work with you to figure out how.

What Every Custom WingSmith Aircraft Includes

Every custom WingSmith aircraft includes:

  • Professionally assembled FPV drone
  • Complete soldering and wiring
  • Component installation
  • Firmware configuration
  • Receiver and control setup
  • Flight-mode configuration
  • WingSmith tuning
  • QA/QC inspection
  • Functional testing
  • Build documentation
  • Technical support
  • Lifetime eligibility for WingSmith repair support

Your aircraft is built as a complete system — not as a random collection of individually compatible-looking parts.

Your Final Specs Are Your Specs

Because every custom WingSmith build is different, there is no single universal specification sheet for the Design Your Own platform.

Your final configuration will identify the actual components selected for your aircraft, including:

  • Frame
  • Propeller size
  • Motors
  • Flight controller / ESC
  • Video system
  • Receiver
  • Battery requirements
  • Connector type
  • Selected accessories
  • Relevant configuration details

Where appropriate, we’ll also provide expected or measured information relating to:

  • Aircraft weight
  • Ready-to-fly weight
  • Battery configuration
  • Expected performance
  • Flight-time observations
  • Payload considerations

We don’t hide what’s inside your build — the build specification is part of the product.

Performance & Flight Time

There is no single flight-time number that accurately represents every custom FPV aircraft.

A lightweight 2.5” drone, a high-powered 3.5” freestyle build, and a full-size 5” aircraft can have dramatically different:

  • Weight
  • Thrust
  • Battery requirements
  • Flight duration
  • Handling
  • Power consumption
  • Payload capability

As part of the custom design process, we’ll help explain the expected trade-offs between:

  • Weight
  • Power
  • Flight duration
  • Durability
  • Payload
  • Portability
  • Cost

Where WingSmith publishes performance figures, they are based on real-world testing, measured completed builds, or configuration-specific information rather than treating one number as representative of every aircraft.

Actual FPV flight time varies with throttle use, flying style, battery condition, temperature, wind, propeller choice, payload, and overall aircraft configuration.

Why Build Custom?

You Don’t Need to Become an FPV Engineer Before You Can Own a Custom FPV Drone.

Traditional custom FPV often means figuring out:

  • Which frame fits which electronics
  • Which motors work with which battery voltage
  • Whether the ESC can handle the current
  • Whether the video system will physically fit
  • Whether your goggles are compatible
  • Whether your receiver works with your radio
  • Which firmware needs to be installed
  • How to solder everything together
  • How to configure Betaflight
  • How to tune the aircraft
  • What happens when something inevitably needs repair

WingSmith gives you another option.

You tell us what you want the aircraft to do.

We help design a compatible system around those goals, professionally build it, configure it, tune it, test it, and support you after delivery.

You still get the benefits of a custom, individually serviceable FPV aircraft.

You just don’t have to figure everything out alone.

Designed to Be Repaired & Upgraded

A custom WingSmith drone isn’t intended to become obsolete the first time you want to change something.

Whenever practical, we select and configure components with future:

  • Repairs
  • Replacement parts
  • Upgrades
  • Maintenance
  • Configuration changes

in mind.

FPV technology changes quickly, so we don’t promise that any configuration is truly “future-proof.”

Instead, we aim to build serviceable, upgrade-friendly aircraft using individually replaceable components.

Support & Repair

FPV drones are meant to be flown.

And sometimes that means crashing them.

We expect WingSmith aircraft to get flown, damaged, repaired, modified, upgraded, and flown again.

That’s why our support doesn’t disappear once your custom build ships.

WingSmith customers have access to:

  • Technical troubleshooting
  • Free repair consultations
  • Video-assisted repair guidance
  • Replacement-part assistance
  • Mail-in diagnostic and repair services
  • Configuration and setup support
  • Upgrade assistance
  • WingSmith Academy technical resources
  • Lifetime eligibility for WingSmith repair support

Want to learn how to repair your aircraft yourself?

We’ll help walk you through it.

Prefer to send it back to us?

We can take care of it.

Break It. Repair It. Upgrade It. Fly Again.

Your custom drone should be something you can keep learning from, modifying, repairing, and enjoying.

Not something you’re afraid to fly.

Forged for Flight.
