wingsmith drones

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer repairs if something breaks? How does it work?

Yes. Every WingSmith drone is designed with long-term support in mind, and we offer repair assistance for all of our drones.

Each drone ships in a durable reusable carrying case, which can also be used if the drone ever needs to be shipped back to us for service. If an issue occurs, the first step is a free video consultation with our team to help diagnose the problem.

Many repairs in FPV drones are relatively simple, so every WingSmith drone will also include a basic repair kit. During the consultation we’ll determine whether the repair is something the pilot is comfortable doing themselves with guidance from us.

If the repair requires additional help, we will provide a prepaid shipping label so the drone can be sent back to us. Once received, our technicians will inspect the drone and perform the necessary repairs.

Depending on the situation, repairs may involve:

  • A service fee
  • Replacement part cost
  • Or both, depending on the extent of the damage

Our goal is to make drone ownership as stress-free as possible by providing clear guidance, accessible repairs, and long-term support for every pilot.

What is included with every WingSmith drone kit?

Every WingSmith kit is designed to be a complete FPV flight system — meaning you won’t need to hunt down extra parts or figure out complicated compatibility between components.

When your kit arrives, you’ll have everything needed to start flying.

Each kit includes:

Pre-Built & Professionally Tuned FPV Drone
Fully assembled and configured by our team so it’s ready to fly right out of the case.

Radio Controller
A high-quality RadioMaster controller paired and configured for your drone.

FPV Goggles
Fly from the drone’s perspective with a real-time immersive video feed.

Flight Batteries
High-performance LiPo batteries matched to your drone for optimal flight performance.

Smart Battery Charger
A simple charger designed to safely charge your flight batteries.

Repair Starter Kit
Basic tools and spare components to help with common FPV maintenance and small repairs.

Durable Carrying Case
A protective, reusable case to safely store and transport your drone and gear.

WingSmith Academy Access
Step-by-step training that guides new pilots from simulator practice to confident real-world flying.

Our goal is simple:
Open the case, power up, and start flying.

WingSmith kits remove the complexity of FPV so pilots can focus on learning, exploring, and enjoying the experience of flight.

Do I need a license to fly a WingSmith drone?

In Canada, drone regulations depend on the weight of the drone and how it is being used.

Many smaller FPV drones fall under the sub-250g category, which means they can often be flown recreationally without a drone pilot certificate. However, pilots are still expected to follow basic safety guidelines such as avoiding people, aircraft, and restricted airspace.

Larger drones (over 250g) may require a Transport Canada Basic or Advanced Drone Pilot Certificate.

To make things easier, WingSmith Academy includes guidance on Canadian drone rules, helping new pilots understand how to fly safely and legally.

Are WingSmith drones beginner friendly?

Yes — WingSmith drones are specifically designed to help new pilots enter FPV flying with confidence.

Traditional FPV drones can be difficult for beginners because they often require building, programming, and tuning before the first flight.

WingSmith removes that barrier by providing:

  • Fully built and tuned drones
  • Pre-configured controllers and systems
  • Step-by-step training through WingSmith Academy
  • Support and repair services

Our goal is to make FPV accessible to beginners while still delivering performance experienced pilots will appreciate.

What happens if I crash my drone?

Crashing is a normal part of learning FPV — even experienced pilots crash sometimes.

WingSmith drones are built with durable carbon fiber frames and replaceable components so most crashes only require minor repairs.

If something breaks:

  1. We start with a free video consultation to diagnose the issue.
  2. If it’s a simple fix, we can guide you through the repair using the repair kit included with every drone.
  3. If additional help is needed, we’ll provide a prepaid shipping label so the drone can be sent to us for repair.

Our goal is to keep you back in the air as quickly as possible.

How long do the batteries last?

Flight time varies depending on the drone model, flying style, and battery size.

Most FPV drones typically fly for 4–8 minutes per battery during active flight.

Because FPV flying is so immersive, pilots usually bring multiple batteries and swap them out between flights.

Each WingSmith kit includes multiple high-performance batteries and a charger, so you’ll be ready to fly right away.

How difficult are FPV drones to fly?

FPV drones can feel challenging at first, but with the right learning approach most pilots become comfortable quickly.

The recommended path is:

  1. Practice in a flight simulator
  2. Learn basic controls and orientation
  3. Start with slower real-world flights
  4. Gradually build confidence

WingSmith Academy walks pilots through this entire process step-by-step so you can progress safely from your first practice flight to confident FPV flying.

What makes WingSmith different from other FPV drones?

Most FPV drones require pilots to research parts, build the drone themselves, configure software, and troubleshoot issues before ever getting their first flight. For many people, that complexity can make FPV flying feel difficult to get started with.

WingSmith was created to remove those barriers.

Our goal is to make FPV flying accessible, supportive, and exciting from day one, while still delivering the performance experienced pilots expect.

Here’s what sets WingSmith apart:
