Merlin 65 — Micro Indoor FPV Drone
Pre-orders open November 1–15, 2026. Only 10 units available in the first batch.
Small bird. Serious flying.
Meet the Merlin 65, the newest bird joining the WingSmith Drones flock.
The Merlin 65 is a 65mm micro indoor FPV drone designed with new pilots in mind. Our goal isn't to build the cheapest drone on the market. It's to create an accessible entry point into FPV with carefully selected components, a focus on durability, and a design philosophy that makes repairs less intimidating.
Whether you're learning your first turns, building confidence after a few crashes, or looking for a compact drone to practise your indoor flying skills, the Merlin 65 is designed to give you room to grow.
Early-bird pricing starts at $199 CAD for the drone alone, with complete kits available from $549 CAD.
Built for the learning curve
Every FPV pilot starts somewhere. There will be missed turns, awkward landings, and the occasional meeting with a wall. That's part of learning to fly.
The Merlin 65 uses a compact 65mm frame with fully ducted propellers, making it suited to indoor flying and close-quarters practice. Our design priorities centre on durability, practical maintenance, and helping new pilots spend more time learning and less time worrying about every minor mishap.
No drone is indestructible, but we believe your first drone should be built with the realities of learning in mind.
Carefully selected components
The Merlin 65 brings together established FPV components in a compact micro-drone platform.
Frame — NewBeeDrone Cockroach 65mm V3 (PP version)
A lightweight 65mm frame designed for the tinywhoop category, with ducted propellers for compact indoor flying.
Flight controller — BetaFPV Matrix 2 5-in-1 AIO
An integrated all-in-one flight controller designed to consolidate key electronics into a compact assembly, helping keep the build lightweight and reducing the number of separate components.
Motors — 4 × RCinPower 0702 29,000KV GTS V3 brushless motors
Four high-KV brushless motors selected for the Merlin 65's small, lightweight format and responsive indoor flying.
FPV camera — BetaFPV C03
An analog FPV camera that provides the live video feed used for flying through compatible analog FPV goggles.
Custom canopy — WingSmith 3D-printed
A custom-printed canopy gives the Merlin 65 its own look, with a selection of colours planned for the launch.
Component specifications are based on the planned build and may be updated if necessary before production. Final hardware and compatibility details will be confirmed with the production configuration.
Less fuss. More flying.
Getting started in FPV can feel complicated. Between electronics, radio systems, goggles, batteries, and chargers, choosing compatible equipment can quickly become overwhelming.
The Merlin 65 is being developed around a plug-and-play philosophy, with a focus on making setup and component replacement more approachable.
For customers choosing a kit, we'll bring together compatible equipment to help simplify the process of getting started. For experienced pilots, the drone-only option offers a more affordable way to add the Merlin 65 to an existing setup.
Analog FPV — a place to start
The Merlin 65 uses an analog FPV video system. Analog remains a popular option for micro FPV flying, with a wide range of compatible equipment available.
The planned BetaFPV C03 camera provides the onboard video feed, while the selected goggles allow you to experience the flight from the pilot's perspective.
Because FPV equipment must be compatible, please check the final goggles, radio receiver, and controller specifications for your selected configuration before ordering.
Small enough for indoors
At 65mm, the Merlin 65 belongs to the micro indoor FPV category, often called the tinywhoop class.
Its compact size makes it suitable for practising in smaller spaces where conditions permit. Build your throttle control, work on smooth turns, and develop the fundamentals that can carry over to larger FPV drones.
Always fly in an appropriate space, protect people and property, and follow applicable flight safety requirements.
Make it yours
Your drone should feel like your own.
The Merlin 65 will feature custom 3D-printed canopies in a selection of colours, with approximately eight to nine colour options planned. Choose a look that suits your style and make your little bird stand out.
Additional canopies are included with the kit options, and the Full Kit Bundle provides even more opportunities to customise your setup.
